Spring is almost over (at least here in Phoenix), and everyone knows what that brings to the comic book world... No, not Free Comic Book Day! (But that's a very good guess, and it happens on May 3rd this year)
Summer Movies full of Superheroes!
And lookit this... the first one is released this weekend, March 28th! And what would you think it would be called? Superhero Movie, of course.
OK, perhaps not an opening night must have, but for true comic fans, this parody might be fun. It's brought to us by the same folks who spun the Scary Movie franchise, so you can guess the level of humor. Loosely based on mainly Marvel movies such as Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises, it could be a way to let loose for about an hour and a half on a weekend. You know, the plot is that a guy is bitten by a dragonfly and obtains powers, just like in so many other successful movie franchises. Could there be a sequel in the making?
Seriously, though (but please don't take this movie that way), it could be some fun and is rated a PG-13 for crude and sexual content, comic violence, drug references and language. So it may not be suitable for the younger audience. Our kids are almost all teenagers at this point, and really into comics, so they'll definitely want to see this one.
I have to tell you, though, a couple of the reasons I personally plan to see it (besides just needing an escapist weekend), are the casting of Leslie Neilsen (a favorite of mine since Forbidden Planet) and Brent Spiner (Data, of Star Trek fame). Oh yeah, Pamela Anderson is in it, too. I haven't been to the movies in a while, and it may take just a simple, riduculous movie to get me there.
We'll use a simple rating scale here at Comics Legends and Heroes. Basically, when would we see the movie. The categories will be: Opening Night, Opening Weekend, Full Price, Matinee, DVD Purchase, or Rental.
Superhero Movie would generally rate simply as a Rental for me. But, because I need to blow off some stress in my life, it's the first Superhero movie of the year, and it has Leslie Neilsen and Brent Spiner, I'm going to step out on a limb and rate it: Matinee
Let us know what you think if you go see it!
